Gators and Lightning

This little guy was waiting for me on the bank across from our porch this morning. He's about 2 feet long but acts like he's 8 feet. He was just sunning himself about 10 feet from a cormorant. He couldn't have cared less that I was there. I have yet to see the big daddy that hangs out in the main pond. He's huge!

A massive storm that was more bluster than rain thwarted our evening bike ride. But I caught some wonderful lightning pics for the first time in my life.

I've tried in the past to get lightning pix but failed. I remember one evening a long time ago in Yellowstone standing on top of a hill seeing various storm cells to the West as the sun was setting. I wanted to get the sunset and lightning at the same time. Suddenly a storm cell moved right on top of me, I scrambled down that hill in a hurry. Nice pix though.

Hi Sharon
Just read your comment you posted a few days ago. I occasionally read Heather (see http://www.heathersjourneytohealth.blogspot.com/) She seems to be doing well. Her initial blog about having to deal with delaying being a mom and dealing with egg harvesting was heartbreaking.

Those are some amazing pictures ...

I like your little buddy too but only from a distance. I always wonder how it is to live in areas that have crocs or alligators ...

Daria, I watch my kids like a hawk when we're in Hilton Head. There are some very large gators in the ponds around the golf courses. It always freaks me out when I see some dumb parent with the kids right on the pond bank and a 12 foot gator eye-balling them from 20 feet away.
